Consultation has concluded
The Queanbeyan shared path and bridge construction will complete a loop around the Queanbeyan River.
During community consultation on the Queen Elizabeth II Park redevelopment, the desire for a safe river crossing to enable a walking loop around the Queanbeyan River was identified. Currently a river crossing exists on Morisset Street which requires users to cross five streets to complete this loop. The Queanbeyan River Riparian – Corridor Strategy which was adopted in March 2012 also identified walking infrastructure to complete this loop.
A new river crossing upstream of the existing Morisset Street low level crossing will encourage more users around the Queanbeyan River contributing to healthier lifestyles and a more vibrant community. This will attract more people to the river and increase economic activity in the CBD.
