We are now inviting residents to have their say on the preliminary concept designs for the Braidwood town centre improvements project.

The concept designs have been developed by consultants Phillips/Marler Architects following input from the community and councillors during 2017-18.

Council has allocated $500,000 from the $9m Stronger Communities Fund for the project. The extent of works proposed within the Draft Plan is extensive and will need to be staged, based on priorities and available funds. The total works are estimated to cost between $4-5m (ex GST), dependant on final inclusions and approvals. Some of the kerb and gutter restoration work may be able to be linked to proposed drainage improvement projects.

It is proposed to utilise the funds that are currently available to undertake works on the Wallace and Duncan Streets intersection and within Ryrie Park. Council will continue to seek grant funds to extend the works.

Background

In conjunction with Phillips / Marler Heritage Landscape Architects, Council hosted a community meeting at the Old Library in Braidwood on Thursday 10 August 2017 to present their landscape concept plans for the upgrade of the Braidwood CBD. The landscape concept plans made proposals for the upgrade of Wallace Street streetscapes and both sections of Ryrie Park (north and south).

After this meeting initial concept designs were placed out for community comment and these were received in August-September 2017.

In February 2018, Council agreed to provide funds for the concept design of a skate park in Braidwood. At this stage a location has not been identified, however Ryrie Park has been excluded as a potential option.
