Consultation has concluded
At our Council meeting in September 2017, Council resolved to not proceed with the development at this location. There is still a need for a new Head Office in Queanbeyan, and Council are currently considering options. We will be consulting with the community when new concept plans have been developed and will provide a link here for the community to comment.
A green civic plaza leading residents and visitors towards the cultural heart of the Queanbeyan CBD is the essence of the concept design for a new cultural and civic precinct in the Crawford/Lowe St area. We are now seeking input on from the community on this project.
The concept design prepared by Cox Architecture enhances the look and feel of the Crawford/Lowe St block of the CBD. It introduces a green civic plaza, invites pedestrian activity, accommodates car parking requirements, and presents the community with a modern Council Head Office and Smart Hub space.
The redevelopment of Council’s headquarters has been a long-term project, however with staff currently spread across 11 buildings in the CBD, the need for the redevelopment is greater than ever.
A Heads of Agreement has been signed with a major tenant to occupy the building alongside Council which will provide income. The major tenant will occupy one of the two levels of basement car parking, a large portion of the ground floor and all of floor one. The remaining four floors of the redeveloped building will be accommodated by Council Chambers, smart hub and Council offices.
