We are seeking the community’s feedback on the Debt Recovery Policy.

The policy has been reviewed and minor changes have been made to terminology.

Changes

  • Clause 5 has been amended to reflect the legislative obligations and relevant standards.
  • Clause 6.7.2 and 6.7.3 have been reworded for greater clarity.
  • Clause 6.9. has been expanded to include future processes.

Policy aims

This Policy aims to ensure consistency, fairness, integrity and confidentiality of all proceedings for both Council and account holders; to fulfil the statutory requirements with respect to the recovery of rates and annual charges, water and sewer charges and other debts; to maximise collections of outstanding debts and to optimise Council’s cash flow; and to be sympathetic and helpful to those account holders suffering genuine financial hardship and to establish the circumstances in which financial relief may be provided pursuant to provisions within the Local Government Act.

The Debt Recovery Policy is open for community comment from Friday 26 September until Friday 24 October 2025. The documents may be viewed:

  1. In the Document Library at the top of this page
  2. At Council’s Customer Service Centres, between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday

Feedback can be provided on the proposed names by:

  1. Completing an Online Submission Form (below)
  2. Completing the quick poll (Yes or No)
  3. Emailing feedback directly to council@qprc.nsw.gov.au with the subject title "Corporate Sponsorship Policy review"
  4. Handwriting your submission and delivering it to Council's Customer Service Centres
  5. Posting your submission to PO Box 90, Queanbeyan NSW 2620

Only written submissions will be considered, and these must be received by Council before Friday 24 October 2025. Any submissions received may be included in the final report to Council.
