Australia’s digital economy is growing at rapid pace, and is already a large and significant industry sector.

The smart community agenda too is driving remarkable improvements in municipal services, citizen engagement, innovation, economic opportunity and collaboration.

QPRC is committed to taking advantage of this global revolution by developing a new Digital Economy, Smart Community Strategy.

Smart communities leverage digital technology, partnerships, and new service models to enhance productivity, sustainability, creativity and liveability.

Some common initiatives include:

  • free public wifi to support visitor experience, increase community inclusion, and provide a platform for smart services
  • smart parking where sensors and real time information allow residents to more easily find a car space, improving congestion, commercial activity, and the user experience
  • new digital platforms to enhance engagement with the community, providing more opportunities for citizens to help create their region, and increasing the breadth and depth of the conversation
  • smart street-lighting with new energy efficient LED luminaires, real time monitoring of lighting levels and outages, and the ability to plug in new smart services (such as environmental monitoring)

There are many options and opportunities to consider as we develop our QPRC Digital Economy, Smart Community Strategy.

It is critical that we identify the highest priorities for our community, and your creativity, comments and ideas are most valuable.

We welcome all community input, and we invite you to spend five minutes completing this online survey which we will use to help develop the draft strategy.
