Consultation has concluded
The NSW Disability Inclusion Act 2014 encourages planning and coordination across state and local government to identify and reduce barriers that prevent people with disabilities from participating fully in their community. The Act mandates that Councils must prepare a Disability Inclusion Access Plan by 1 July 2017.
This Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan is founded on the NSW Disability Inclusion Action Planning Guidelines (2015) and supports the implementation of the NSW Disability Inclusion Plan. During the development of the State plan people with disabilities across New South Wales nominated four key areas of focus when developing inclusive communities. These are:
Developing positive community attitudes and behaviours;
Creating liveable communities;
Supporting access to meaningful employment; and
Improving access to services through better systems and processes.
Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council’s Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan considers ways to improve inclusive practice within each of Council’s functions across the four key focus areas. The Plan presents strategies within the context of Council’s authority, roles and responsibilities. However, strategies have been included where Council can advocate for improvement on behalf of people with disability to other levels of government, non-government agencies or other businesses and where there is a clear opportunity to partner with other agencies.
Submissions on the DIAP will be received until 4.30pm on 26 April 2017. You can make your comments online below or alternatively:
