Council is seeking feedback on the revised Asbestos Policy. The policy has undergone an internal review to make sure it is up to date and fit for purpose.
The proposed amendments reflect updated best practice. The document available in the document library has track changes, so that edits are clearly identifiable.
The policy is an operational and strategic policy which provides direction on handling of asbestos for both Council staff and the public. Changes have been made to Appendix F (sections 45 & 46) to clarify the requirements for disposing of asbestos at a licenced facility.
We do not operate any waste facilities that accept asbestos waste, and there are no private facilities in the local government area that are licenced to accept asbestos waste. Licencing requirements are managed by the NSW EPA and subject to change. The most appropriate way for Council to provide this information is by including a link to the EPA website in Appendix F of the policy.
