The Bungendore Flood Study is a key component of the update of the Bungendore Flood Risk Management Study and Plan (FRMSP). An update of the Bungendore FRMSP is required to include land identified in the recently adopted Bungendore Structure Plan including future urban uses beyond the current town boundary.
About the Flood Study
This study provides an improved understanding of the potential impacts of floods on the local community and will form a basis for the ongoing management of flood risk in the Bungendore catchment. The study has been undertaken in accordance with the NSW Government’s Flood Prone Land Policy, the primary objective of which is to reduce the impact of flooding on individual owners and occupiers of flood prone land, and to reduce private and public losses caused by flooding. New hydrologic and hydraulic flood models have been developed as part of the review, adopting the latest available data for the catchment, and up-to-date guidelines, practices and techniques.
The study area for the project encompasses the entire village of Bungendore and the surrounding floodplains of Turallo, Halfway and Mill Post Creeks.
The draft Bungendore Flood Study results were presented to the Bungendore Flood Risk Management Committee in December 2024. Since then, updates have been made to the flood models to incorporate recent developments in Bungendore.
