Map of Bungendore Heritage Study Area

The majority of the buildings currently listed on the Heritage Schedule of the Palerang Local Environmental Plan 2014, were put on the Schedule on the recommendation of the Bungendore Conservation Planning Study. That study was prepared by David Scobie in 1982 and as it is now over 30 years old, it was considered timely to undertake an assessment of the condition and heritage significance of the items included in that study.

Additional benefits to conducting a review

In addition to reviewing the status of buildings currently listed on the Heritage Schedule, the Study seeks to:

  • Correct identification errors
  • Correct factual errors
  • Identify any additional places with potential heritage significance
  • Standardise data collection through the use of a template

Scope of Study

  • The study area (refer Palerang LEP 2014, Heritage Map) was limited to the Bungendore town area and did not include rural properties, parks, memorials, fountains or trees.

Findings of the draft Bungendore Heritage Study

The draft Bungendore Heritage Study recommends that;

  • The heritage items currently listed on the Heritage Schedule be retained on the Schedule;
  • That 21 buildings be investigated further regarding possible future heritage listing, and
  • That 9 buildings are identified as being ‘sympathetic development’ and may be listed in Council's Development Control Plan

What next?

Following the exhibition period, the submissions will be reviewed. The review of submissions is scheduled to take place during the two weeks following the end of the exhibition period. Following on from the submission review period a report to Council on submissions received during public exhibition will be prepared and will include any revisions recommended for incorporation in the Study.

Please note that letters to the property owners advised that the exhibition period closes on Friday 7 December. Public exhibition closes on Monday 10 Dec.
