Consultation has concluded
Cemeteries are an essential social and cultural service and Council’s practices must respect the emotional impact that death and dying has in the community. This means accessibility, affordability and the physical management of cemeteries must reflect community need.
We currently operate 13 cemeteries across the Queanbeyan-Palerang region. Each year we carry out around 200 new burials and inter approximately 50 cremated remains.
The purpose of this strategy is to provide high level direction for the service, and outline proposed achievements over the next five years.
Key areas of focus over the next five years for QPRC cemeteries will be
Sustainability and viability
Management and operational systems
Master planning for current and future capacity
Stakeholder engagement and historical value
There are actions for each of these key areas which are on page 14 of the draft document.
Submissions will be accepted until 4.30pm on 11 April 2024 and can be made in the following ways:
