A ‘smart’ community is a place that actively seeks to provide service provision, economic opportunity and sustainability through digital innovation. A Digital Economy and Smart Community Strategy will allow us to explore how services are delivered and connected by leveraging internet, cloud, social and mobile technologies. Smart technology has potential to engage with visitors to our community, attract investment and allow businesses to participate in the digital economy. It increases efficiency of service delivery, provides evidence-based decision making capability and community involvement through access to digital tools.

This Strategy formally states our aspiration for Queanbeyan-Palerang to be a ‘smart community’ and provides a pathway to applying smart technology that improves local service delivery, builds new connections in our community and provides enhanced opportunities for collaboration and commerce.

Community consultation workshops were conducted in Queanbeyan, Bungendore and Braidwood to gauge opinion on important issues around digital capability and capacity in Queanbeyan-Palerang region. Additionally, a survey was provided to the community. Data collected from these workshops and survey was used to develop the draft Strategy.
