Consultation has concluded
The Geographical Names Board (GNB) have asked for help to remove the duplication of localities (suburb) names across NSW. The name ‘Back Creek’ is duplicated in QPRC, Bland, Gwydir, Mid-Coast, Tenterfield, and Tweed Council areas in NSW.
GNB has approved in principle to dissolve the current duplicated locality of Back Creek into the adjacent locality of Mongarlowe.
Localities/suburbs allow an address to be uniquely identified. They form the third legal part of an address, along with house number and road name. It is important that addresses are simple, unique, and easily understood so that there can be effective service delivery, navigation, and identity management.
We have identified 24 properties that are addressed in the locality of ‘Back Creek’. We have written to these property owners to inform them of this proposal and to seek their comments.
