Consultation has now concluded
Garden Organics are currently accepted at the former landfills at Majors Creek and Araluen. Environmental protection and regulatory requirements make the current arrangements unviable and the existing facilities must be closed.
We are now seeking input from the community on a suitable green waste service for the area. Three options have been developed:
Option 1 - Adopted Waste Strategy Action – Close the existing Garden Organics sites and provide no green waste service in Majors Creek or Araluen
Option 2 - Kerbside Service – Close the existing Garden Organics sites and provide a fortnightly Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) kerbside waste collection service to properties paying a Domestic Waste Management charge only
Option 3 - Green waste Facility – Construct a purpose-built Garden Organics facility at Majors Creek and Araluen
If Option 1 is chosen, residents from the Majors Creek and Araluen areas will need to self-haul garden organics to the Braidwood Waste Transfer Station, where it can be dropped off at no charge.
Increases to charges will be necessary to fund Option 2 and Option 3. Increases related to Option 2 will apply only to residents with a domestic waste collection service in Majors Creek and Araluen. Increases related to Option 3 will apply to all residential properties in QPRC.
We've also prepared a detailed and summary reports which can be downloaded from the document list to the right.
