Consultation has concluded

We are seeking feedback on proposed changes to the future Googong Indoor Sports and Aquatic Centre which will be located on Heazlett Street (adjacent to the netball courts).

The original scope for the centre included an 8-lane 25m indoor pool and a 50m2 children’s wading pool, and we are seeking feedback on whether the changes will make the facility more appealing and useful for the community.

The proposed changes are to replace the children’s wading pool with a larger and more versatile warm water program pool and to reduce the size of the main lap pool, to a 6-lane 25m indoor pool.

The warm water pool could operate at higher temperatures than a normal lap pool and be suited for learn to swim classes, warm water relaxation, use by parents and babies and hydrotherapy. Originally reported to be a varied depth from 0.6m to 0.9m, Googong Township Pty Ltd (GTPL) have since confirmed that this pool is intended to be 0.9m to 1.2m in depth.

The proposed changes are anticipated to generate an increased use of this facility and therefore be able to help the longer term operation of this facility be more self-sufficient.

We're interested in the feedback of Googong residents about whether these changes are supported.

Background

The Indoor Sports and Aquatic Centre is a community facility to be provided by Googong Township Pty Ltd (GTPL) under the Googong Urban Development Voluntary Local Planning Agreement (LPA). The LPA is an agreement between Council and Googong Township Pty Ltd (GTPL) with the objective of providing for the carrying out of works, the dedication of land, and the provision of other material public benefits for the provision of infrastructure, facilities and services to meet the Development on the Land.

GTPL have identified a potential expansion of the benefits this facility could have to the community and have made an offer to Council to amend the scope of the Indoor Sport and Aquatic Centre. Acceptance of this offer would require an amendment to the LPA to reflect this scope change. A draft deed of variation to the LPA is included as an attachment for feedback. The existing LPA can be viewed on our website at https://www.qprc.nsw.gov.au/Building-Development/Planning-Zoning/Planning-Controls#section-6

The Indoor Sports and Aquatic Centre will be located adjacent to the netball courts on Heazlett Street in Googong. When construction is finished, the facility will be transferred to, and operated by Council.
