Googong Road and Old Cooma Road intersection

Consultation has now concluded.

To accommodate the increased vehicle numbers and to provide safe access to and from Googong, upgrade works to the intersection of Googong Road with Old Cooma Road are required. These upgrade works are required to be completed prior to the occupation of approximately 1,100 dwellings within the Googong Township in mid-2018. Construction is expected to commence early April.

We are seeking community comment on both the design drawings and Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for the project.

The REF has been prepared in support of the proposed upgrade works at the intersection of Googong Road and Old Cooma Road which is adjacent to Googong Township Neighbourhood Two.

The proposed scope of works are as follows:

  • Earthworks and vegetation clearing
  • Installation of traffic lights at the intersection of Googong Road and Old Cooma Road
  • Googong Road to be widened at the intersection to provide two right turn lanes to Old Cooma Road
  • Creation of a turn left lane on to Old Cooma Road
  • Old Cooma Road to be widened to provide two lanes in each direction through the intersection plus on road cycle facilities
  • Landscaping works within the road median and verge.

    Council has considered the submissions received on the intersection design during the exhibition phase of the Review of Environmental Factors.

    The submissions primarily requested either a roundabout be constructed instead of traffic signals or an un-controlled slip lane be included in the signalised intersection design. The intent of all of the submissions was to enable vehicles travelling north along Old Cooma Road to pass through the new intersection without being stopped by the traffic signals.
