Queanbeyan is growing and along with the growth are the expectations for diverse, affordable, and well‑located housing. To respond to this growth, Council has engaged a consultant to prepare an Infill Housing Strategy, a long‑term plan to guide how additional homes can be sensitively integrated into existing neighbourhoods of Queanbeyan, Queanbeyan East and Crestwood.

Infill Housing Strategy focuses on facilitating the creation of new homes within the established areas, close to shops, services, transport, parks, and community facilities. This approach helps make better use of existing infrastructure, supports local businesses, and provides more housing choices for people at different life stages.

Council is inviting you to an in-person engagement session on Monday 25 May 2026 to help shape this work. The community session is from 6-8pm, at the Nellie Hamilton Centre, 257 Crawford Street, Queanbeyan. Register to attend by completing the simple registration form on this page and providing your name and email address. RSVP by 20 May.

The session will be divided into the following four themes, and all the participants will have opportunity to share their thoughts on each theme:

  1. Housing and Character – Delivering diverse housing typologies particularly medium and high density.
  2. Recreational areas (parks and open spaces) and lifestyle – Recreational areas to service the needs of the growing population
  3. Getting around (transport and connectivity) and jobs – Improving transport network (roads, footpaths and cycle tracks) and make Queanbeyan and surrounding areas more attractive for people to live and work.
  4. Heritage, Environment and Infrastructure – Influence of flooding and heritage on infill housing location and densities.

Your views about local character, housing needs, infrastructure, and future aspirations are essential to creating a strategy that reflects what matters most to the people who live, work, and invest in Queanbeyan and surrounds.

We would love to see you in person on the day.

If you are not available to join us for the in-person session, you can also complete the survey below. The survey will be open until 25 May 2026.
