Consultation has now concluded.

We are seeking comment from interested parties on the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for stormwater bioretention works planned for Alanbar Street and Kenneth Place, Karabar.

The Review of Environmental Factors (REF) has been prepared to inform the design and construction of a bioretention system and a separate underground stormwater treatment device to be installed within open space on Alanbar Road and in road reserve on Kenneth Place in Karabar.

The works form part of the ACT Healthy Waterways (ACTHW) project The ACTHW project is a joint initiative of the Commonwealth and Australian Capital Territory Government. The purpose of the ACTHW project is to remediate, and construct stormwater, drainage and detention infrastructure works in and around ACT catchments, including upstream catchments located within NSW.

The REF has been submitted to QPRC to assess the potential environmental impacts of the construction and operation of the works. QPRC is the determining authority for the works. As such, the proposal will be assessed under Part 5 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. The REF has been prepared according to the requirements of Section 5.5 (previously s.111) of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, which specifies a “duty to consider environmental impact”. It provides a full analysis of the potential environmental, economic, physical and social effects of the proposal. The REF has concluded that the works will have an overall positive environmental impact, however, some short-term negative impact will occur during construction.
