Naming of Sportsfields at Bungendore Sports Hub
Consultation has concluded
The QPRC Sports Council has been considering names for the two new grass fields at the Bungendore Sports Hub.
Submissions were invited from the Bungendore Mudchooks (Rugby Union) and the Bungendore Tigers (Rugby League) to name the two new grass fields.
We are now seeking feedback on the names Garry Cook Field and Anthony Rayner Field.
Anthony Rayner – Bungendore Tigers Rugby League
Anthony joined the Bungendore Tigers in 1991. He played 100 games for the team including the 1995 grand final. In 1992 he joined the Committee of the Tigers as Secretary and has since held the role of President or Vice-President.
He started the Bungendore Junior Tigers in 1995 and served as a committee member for 15 years. He was instrumental in starting LeagueTag in the Canberra Region in 2013, and brought this to the Bungendore Tigers in 2015.
In addition, he has been a board member of the Canberra Region Rugby League for 14 years and delegate for George Tooke Competition for 25 years, also serving as Chairman of the discipline hearings and appeals.
Anthony is also a committee member for Bungendore Touch and has refereed Bungendore Oz Tag for 13 years.
Garry Cook - Bungendore Mudchooks Rugby Union
Garry was a founding member of the Bungendore Mudchooks (2005), and held committee positions including Club President for 10 years, Club Vice-President for five years, Assistant Treasurer for three years and Club Public Officer for eight years. In 2012 he was awarded life membership of the club.
Garry is also active in the local community and has been a member of the Rotary Club of Bungendore since 2002 holding several board positions.
Gary is also involved in Palerang Financial Services Ltd which owns and operates the Bendigo Bank Community Bank branches in Bungendore and Braidwood. He has been a Director since May 2019 and Chairman since October 2022.
In 2008 Garry was named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International, in 2017 was presented with a Service to Monaro Award by Hon. John Barilaro MP, NSW Deputy Premier and Member for Monaro, in 2020 he was awarded the Bungendore Citizen of the Year by QPRC, in 2020 and 2022 he received Community Service Awards from Rotary Club of Bungendore.
