Council is seeking community feedback on the new Place Naming Policy.
This has been developed to provide a policy for naming places other than roads, which are governed by our Road Names Policy.
The development of this Place Naming Policy includes:
- geographical and topographical features
- parks
- gardens
- reserves and natural landscapes
- buildings and community spaces
- bridges and other infrastructure managed by QPRC.
It establishes clear and consistent principles for the naming and renaming of places within QPRC while aligning with the Geographical Names Board of NSW Place Naming Policy and relevant legislative standards.
The primary objectives of this policy are to ensure that all place names:
- reinforce community identity,
- respect heritage and Aboriginal culture, and
- uphold operational clarity.
Feedback can be provided by:
- Completing the online form below
- Emailing feedback directly to council@qprc.nsw.gov.au with the subject title "Place Naming Policy"
- Handwriting your submission and delivering it to Council's Customer Service Centres
- Posting your submission to PO Box 90, Queanbeyan NSW 2620
Submissions must be received by Council by Monday 11 May 2026. Any submissions received may be included in the final report to Council.
