Following representations from the community, Council proposes to declare Ernie Beaver Park on Gilmore Place, Queanbeyan an Alcohol Prohibited Area (APA).
Council has received complaints about persons becoming inebriated in the park resulting in unacceptable language and behaviour and congregating at a nearby laneway where passers-by may feel intimidated. It is claimed that the public’s use of the park has been compromised by street drinkers with instances of malicious damage to property, littering and offensive behaviour. The safety of the area is a problem and Council aims to make it safer for children, adults and homeowners alike.
The proposal to declare Ernie Beaver Park an APA would make it unlawful to consume alcohol at any time within the signposted area and enforcement may then be undertaken by Queanbeyan Police.
