Consultation has concluded
At its meeting on 26 June 2019, Council resolved
That Council:
1. Proceed with the planned changes at the Bungendore office.
2. Engage a professional design consultant to evaluate the merits and functionality of rearrangements within the Braidwood office buildings, having regard to heritage and access.
3. Receive a further report on the outcome of the professional design consultant’s findings.
Council is proposing to make changes at its Braidwood and Bungendore customer centres for differing reasons.
Braidwood
In line with Council's Digital Economy and Smart Community Strategy, we're looking at creating smart hubs in Queanbeyan, Bungendore and Braidwood. To accommodate the smart hub, it is intended to co-locate the current customer service area with the library desk and change the point of public access to Council services to be through the library entrance. The foyer will include a Service NSW kiosk. The front part of the building will be renovated to include smart hub facilities and community meeting space. Staff currently located on the ground floor will be relocated to either the new customer service area or to the first floor. Some additional work is required on the first floor to accommodate staff relocating from the ground floor. Hot desks will be provided for staff that are infrequently required to work at the Braidwood Office for the day. Design and materials sensitive to the heritage of the building will be required. Tech fitout is the subject of grant and election commitment requests.
The inclusion of a Service NSW kiosk will allow residents to complete a number of Service NSW transactions via the kiosk. This kiosk will not be staffed, however there will be a direct phone line to a Service NSW representative. Some of the transactions possible via this kiosk include: renewal of car, bike and boat registration, renewal of drivers licence, apply for birth certificate, apply for marriage certificate and much more. Service NSW has advised that the regular Service NSW bus that attends Braidwood will continue to do so.
What's a smart hub?
A smart hub would provide a professional working environment for commuters and businesses. This may appeal to residents employed in Queanbeyan or the ACT or new businesses looking for a base to start. A smart hub would provide access to wi-fi, work stations, monitors, print/copy equipment and kitchen and toilet facilities. Users would register online or via customer service and would pay a hourly fee for using the facility. Users would be provided with access to the building. Smart hubs are becoming more popular across Australia due to the ability for employees to work remotely.
Bungendore
It is proposed to co-locate functional teams between the Queanbeyan and Bungendore offices. To accommodate more staff into the Bungendore office, the relocation of the customer counter into the foyer area is proposed, enabling office areas behind. Access to meeting rooms, Council Chambers and public toilets remains unimpeded.
