We are seeking feedback on the new Events Policy. There is not currently a dedicated policy for managing events held on Council-managed land or requiring Council approval.
This has resulted in inconsistent processes and guidance, with variations in how events are assessed, approved, and managed. This has created uncertainty for both Council staff and event organisers.
The Events Policy establishes clear processes for the assessment, approval, and management of events in the region. It addresses the current lack of consistency and guidance, ensuring events are planned and delivered safely while meeting Council’s strategic objectives and legislative obligations.
The policy introduces a classification system for events; Low, Medium, and High so that the level of assessment and required documentation reflects the event’s scale, complexity, and potential risks. This improves clarity for event organisers, reduces ‘red tape’, and ensures Council processes are efficient and effective.
It clearly defines event organisers’ responsibilities, including compliance with conditions, risk and safety management, and restoring sites after events. This ensures that events create positive outcomes for the community while minimising impacts on public amenity, the environment, and Council resources.
