Thanks for all your feedback. Consultation on this project has conclude. We'll provide more information after further assessment on the viability of establishing a tool library.
We are considering the viability of establishing a Council-operated tool library. We'd like to know whether the community would be interested and are seeking your feedback.
A community tool library allows patrons to check out tools, equipment and “how- to” instructional materials, functioning either as a rental shop, with a charge for borrowing the tools, or free of charge as a form of community sharing. A tool library performs the following tasks:
- Lending: all kinds of tools for use in volunteer projects, facility maintenance and improvement projects, community improvement events and special events.
- Advocacy: for the complete and timely return of all borrowed tools, to guarantee the long-term sustainability of available inventory.
- Maintenance: performing routine maintenance and repair on all equipment to ensure good condition and to extend the lifespan of the inventory.

Tools & equipment for hobbies and holidays
We already share books, films, music, magazines, newspapers and computers at traditional libraries. A tool library is just an extension of this practice which has many social benefits. A tool library could support people to expand their range of hobbies, including arts and crafts. For example, equipment to frame items or create home-made gifts to give away. Also, portable tables and chairs and even tents for people to go on camping holidays. A tool library doesn't need to be thought of in a narrow, traditional idea of tools. It has the potential to especially support people on low and modest incomes. But it could also be a way for someone to try out a hobby before outlaying for expensive equipment of their own.

Large tools that are used infrequently
Reduce capital investment and storage needs for infrequently used tools. For example, wheelbarrows, hedge trimmer, ladders, painting accessories, saws, drills etc. It is a fantastic idea, love it!

Not a wise idea
Users will not respect the tools and what will happen when someone injures themselves. Council should focus on maintaining the existing community facilities eg local parks and parklets.
