Queanbeyan, the smart regional city

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council has been successful in gaining Australian Government funding of $452,168 in the Smart Cities and Suburbs Program.

“Council has a vision of transforming Queanbeyan into a smart city, with smart parking, free public Wi-Fi, and smart lighting. We are pleased that we have been successful in gaining funding in the Australian Government’s $50 million Smart Cities and Suburbs Program,” Mayor Tim Overall said.

“This announcement follows the adoption of our CBD Transformation Strategy and the Digital Economy and Smart Community Strategy, which outlines our aspirations to adapt our CBD into digitally enabled and pedestrian friendly place using these urban smarts.”

“Also included in the vision are CCTV, traffic sensors and environmental monitoring, as well as 3D modelling, and partnerships with the University of Canberra and Urban Circus to analyse data and provide expert planning design.”

“We are delighted to be one of 52 projects funded around Australia after the Australian Government assessed 170 applications.”
