The policy has been reviewed with the following changes recommended.

  • Change of title proposed to Street Verge & Public Land Tree Maintenance Policy
  • Minor terminology changes throughout
  • Subclause removed at 6.1 to increase clarity of the scope of the clause
  • Clause 6.2.5 around Artificial Turf has been changed to remove artificial grass as an accepted alternative verge treatment.
  • Clause 6.2.8 has been expanded to include reasons for Council refusing tree removal or major pruning of Council-owned trees.

Background

This policy applies to all road and road related areas of the Queanbeyan-Palerang Local Government area except for Crown road reserves.

This policy sets out roles and responsibilities of both Council and residents/business owners in relation to the maintenance of the street verge.

The 2025 review of the Street Verge Maintenance Policy is open for community comment from Friday 3 October to Friday 31 October 2025. The draft Policy may be viewed:

  1. In the electronic Document Library on this page
  2. At Council’s Customer Service Centres, between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday

Feedback can be provided on the draft Policy through:

  1. Completing an Online Submission Form (below)
  2. Emailing it directly to council@qprc.nsw.gov.au with the subject title "Street Verge Maintenance Policy"
  3. Hand writing your submission and delivering it to Council's Customer Service Centres
