Background

Every four years, all NSW government agencies and local councils update Disability Inclusion Action Plans in consultation with people with disability.

What is a Disability Inclusion Action Plan?

It outlines measures to put in place so that people with disability can:

  • access general supports and services available in the community
  • participate fully in the community

It provides a four-year framework for inclusion planning and is undertaken in line with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014.

Our previous Plan was developed in 2017. The new Plan will come into effect in 2022.

How have we consulted with the community?

Council consulted broadly with the community and key disability stakeholders to understand what people think Council does well when it comes to planning for disability inclusion and access, what could be improved and their ideas for the future. We spoke with:

  • 68 local people with disability and/or carers, who completed the online survey
  • 11 local people with disability and/or carers who participated in our online workshop
  • 5 local service providers who participated in an online workshop
  • Local agencies, through ‘one on one’ engagement
  • Members of the QPRC Disability Access Committee, who gave ongoing feedback and valuable contributions

What happens next?

The consultation has informed us about the community's needs and aspirations to improve the lives of people living with disability and their family and carers. This information has been developed into a draft action plan. This draft plan is now ready for the community to have their final input.
