The Turallo Creek Rehabilitation Project aims to rehabilitate the bed and banks of a popular but degraded section of Turallo Creek in Bungendore, between Tarago Road and Turallo Terrace/McCusker Drive. The draft Turallo Creek Management Plan addresses concerns about flooding and weed risk in the reserve and surrounding areas.

The vision is to restore the riparian environment to enhance habitat, improve visual and recreational values, and mitigate flood and weed risk. The project is limited to the waterway itself and a strip approximately 5 metres wide from the crest of each bank. It is anticipated that this plan for the waterway will be incorporated into a Plan of Management for the entire reserve at a later date.

The first stage of the project (clearing the creek bed of debris and in-stream woody weeds) has already commenced.

The draft Turallo Creek Management Plan provides a framework to achieve the vision described above, and to manage risk. It recommends a staged approach to works along the waterway to minimise damage associated with woody weed removal, and to progressively rehabilitate the creek, retaining maximum shade and visual screening. Exotic trees which add character to the reserve and do not pose a weed risk will be retained wherever possible.

We would like your input on the draft plan, and more generally why you value Turallo Creek and your ideas for the creek’s rehabilitation.
