Consultation has concluded
A key feature of the former Queanbeyan City Council's Delivery Program 2013-17 was the creation of a water playground and pool for children at the Queanbeyan Aquatic Centre.
Swimplex Aquatics Pty Ltd has been awarded the tender to construct the new wet play area. Swimplex is a highly reputable company having completed projects for Wet’n’Wild Sydney, The Australian Institute of Sports, various Big 4 Holiday Parks and a number of Councils throughout Australia.
We are now seeking community input as to which option they would prefer.
Option A - Zero depth wet play area
Will provide a completely zero depth play area with 24 water features. The cost for this option is $742,835 (including GST).
Option B Zero depth with 30cm deep splash zone
Will provide a zero depth play area, a 30cm deep wading zone and 26 water features. The cost of this option is $782,413.50 (including GST)
Funding
Funding for this project is being sourced from:
- The Stronger Communities Fund
- Aquatic Centre Reserve and
- Postponed Capital Expenditure Project(s) which will be identified in the Quarter 1 review
Shading
The tender specifications detailed that a shade sail should be included, however taking into consideration the height of the tower this will not be feasible.
The creation of a large shaded area will be created under the existing dome structure with the removal of a ticket booth that is not being used.
