Council has prepared a Planning Proposal to provide for a new memorial park/cemetery on land at Lot 2 DP 112382 and Lot 126 DP 754881, 1241 Old Cooma Road, Googong.
The planning proposal in effect will amend Queanbeyan Local Environmental Plan 2012 by adding the term ‘cemetery’ to Schedule 1 Additional Permitted Uses for these particular lots. The site is currently zoned E4 Environmental Living and a cemetery is not permitted with consent in the land use table.
As part of the Planning Proposal, the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment requested that Council undertake a number of studies on the land being considered for a proposed Memorial Park.
The full studies and reports can be downloaded from the document library to the right of this page. A "Reports Overview" document and a "Question and Answer" document are also available.
A community meeting was held on 15 September at 6.30pm. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the meeting was held online via Zoom. The presentation from the meeting has been uploaded and can be downloaded to the right of this page from the document library .
