FAQ
Disability Access
The
Wet Play Area will have three key zones, noting the final engineers design is
due to be submitted to Council in the coming weeks. One zone is zero depth with
Wheel Chair Accessibility, this will have water fountains, water guns and other
interactive water features. The second zone is the slides that are
unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. The third zone, the 30cm depth zone,
is still being developed from an engineer’s perspective however the Project
Manager from Swimplex has advised that the zero depth splash zone will have a
gradual entry from the zero depth play area to the splash zone. Unfortunately
it would not be DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) compliant however it should
be easily traversed by a waterproof wheelchair.
Enclosed Slides
Though the Wet Play Area is not specifically designed for adults, the weight rating for all slides and platforms is maximum 120kg. This would allow adults to access any section of the Play Area to assist children if necessary.
Shading
There is a permanent shade structure that will be made available through the removal of the old ticket box. This will allow for a large new shade area for patrons as part of the refurbished section.
In respect to the main attraction it is far too tall for a shade sail to be effective, however it does have a roof in the section where kids wait to ride the slides. With the selection of option B, staff are working with the contractor to have a shade structure over the splash pool zone.
